4 arrested in Jujhar Nagar murder case: Mohali police | Chandigarh News

Four Uttar Pradesh residents were arrested in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old man in Jujhar Nagar village, Mohali police said Friday.

Mukesh Baghel died on the spot after being attacked with knives on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Police identified the arrested accused as 45-year-old Chaturbhuj, alias Ajay Mishra, a native of Uttar Pradesh who resides in Gali No. 11, Jujhar Nagar; 18-year-old Shiv Kumar, alias Sheebu, a resident of Pasrampur village in UP’s Mainpuri district; and 21-year-old Arjun Mishra and 18-year-old Manish Kumar, alias Munna, both residents of Kalyanpur, UP’s Sultanpur district. They would be produced before a district court on Saturday, police said.

DSP Karan Sandhu said, “Shiv Kumar attacked Baghel with a knife, leading to his death.”

Baghel, who would earn his livelihood by running a pani puri cart in Bahlolpur, is survived by his wife and one-and-a-half-year-old daughter.

According to police, Baghel’s family originally hails from Madhya Pradesh and has been living in a rented accommodation in Jujhar Nagar. Mukesh earned his livelihood by running a golgappa (pani puri) cart in Bahlolpur.

Mukesh’s younger brother Brijesh Baghel said, “We live in Gali No. 10 of Jujhar Nagar, while our aunt’s daughter lives in Gali No. 11. On the night of December 31, my brother-in-law Balbir was consuming liquor with neighbours, who allegedly started abusing my father Lakhan. The aunt’s daughter informed the family about the incident over the phone. The next morning, Mukesh was surrounded by Arjun and his accomplices, who attacked him with knives and killed him.”

Police said further investigation into the case was underway.
