Abhishek Raghuram rendered an elaborate and innovative concert on the first day of the 74th annual music and arts festival at the Sri Sathguru Sangeetha Samajam, with the percussion support from Kamalakiran Vinjamuri on the violin, Kishore Ramesh on the Mrudangam and Sumukh Karanth on the Khanjira.
He began with the varnam “intha modi” worshipping Lord Thyagaraja in Tiruvottiyur, Chennai by Thiruvotriyur Thyagayyer. He Invoked the blessings of Lord Ganesa through two Dikshidar’s kritis viz “ shree gananatham Bhajare”, Vatapi Ganapatim Bhajeham, in Isha Manohari and Hamsadhvani.
Abhishek then rendered through minor and major scale notes of Ragam Kiravani for “ vananai mathi sudiya” from Tevaram on Thiruvannamalai kshetram, dedicated to Lord at Thiruvannamalai.
The vocalist showcased raga Mohanam’s enchanting, devotional, and heroic (Veera Rasa) moods through Papanasam Sivan’s “Kapali Karunai Nilavu”.
The delineation of the raga highlighted its features while the creatively crafted swarakalpanas flowed effortlessly. Tani Avartanam that followed exhibited the prowess of both the mridangist Kishore Ramesh and Sumukh Karanth on Khanjira. The violinist was full of self confidence and rose to the expectations of the singer and the audience as well.
A unique song in which the entire construction is woven around the names of the ragams (many of them named after the goddess), “Srinivasa Thiruvenkatamudayan” in Hamsanandi by Papanasam Sivan and “Shiva peruman Krupai vendum “ in surati by Papanasam Sivan popularised by M K Thiagaraja Bhagavathar through the film Navina Sarangadara.
