Blackpool hotel and scrap merchant listed as latest Lancs tax dodgers owing £8.9m

HMRC has published a list of the Lancashire companies who owe millions in unpaid tax

A Blackpool scrap merchant and the owners of a hotel in the seaside town have been listed as the latest tax defaulters owing the government more than £8.7m.

Every few months HM Revenue and Customs publishes a list of ‘deliberate tax defaulters’ in a bid to name and shame those who are refusing to pay their bills. Each entry on this list is specific to the default dates to which it refers. The address is the one associated with the published person at the time of the default.

HMRC has specified that the individuals named may no longer be based at the stated address, any other business registered at the same address might not be connected, and that the business, even if using the same name, could be under completely new management.

A person or business appears on the list if HMRC claims they have deliberately defaulted on more than £25,000 in tax. The latest list, published in November, includes Euro Recycling Brokers Limited, formerly of Chorley Road in Blackpool, which owes £4.8m in unpaid taxes and £3.3m in penalties from between July 2021 and March 2024.

Also in Blackpool, the former owners of Peek-A-Booze Limited from between March 2019 and April 2024, owe £247,234.63 in unpaid taxes and £165,744.90 in penalties.

Individuals can report a person or business you think is not paying enough tax or is committing another type of fraud against HM Revenue and Customs using an online form.
