Witnesses say two neighbours attempted to fight their way into the burning building
A witness has recounted the heroic actions of “two incredibly brave neighbours” who fought their way through a house fire in a Huddersfield suburb, attempting to rescue a woman trapped inside.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called to Greenhead Lane, Dalton, following reports of a fire around 11pm on Friday evening (January 2). The courageous pair had already “risked their lives” amidst intense heat and smoke, forcing entry into the property by “kicking the door in” and dragging the woman out.
By Saturday morning (January 3), crime scene investigators were present at the location, with a police cordon set up around a single property. A local resident who witnessed the blaze gave a detailed account of the dramatic events, including the valiant efforts of two men trying to penetrate the burning building.
Speaking to Yorkshire Live, a neighbour said: “I saw the Brigade arrive (on Friday) to tackle the fire and bring out a woman, who I believe to be the sole resident.

“One man who lives next door to the house kicked in the front door, and he was helped by another neighbour from across the road.”, reports Yorkshire Live.
“The two men charged into the burning house and up the stairs twice but had to retreat from the heat and the smoke. They seriously risked their lives by going as far as they did. Their courage deserves great praise.”
West Yorkshire Police confirmed to YorkshireLive: “This one is for the fire service.”
The matter has now been handed over to West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, who have been approached for additional comment.
Yorkshire Ambulance Service has also been approached for further comment.
