A British Airways flight bound for Aberdeen was forced to land over 100 miles away due to heavy snow.
The aircraft left London at 6.35am this morning, Sunday, January 4, and was due to touch down at Aberdeen Airport at 8.10am but the extreme weather caused the flight to be diverted to Edinburgh.
Flight BA1300 arrived in the capital at 8.40am.
British Airways apologised to passengers online, saying: “We’re very sorry, this flight scheduled from London to Aberdeen, has been diverted to Edinburgh.”
The Met Office has issued a series of weather warnings in the area, with a fresh Amber warning due to start at 6pm this evening and last until 10am tomorrow.
People living in the north of the country have been warned of blizzard like conditions with the potential for another 5-10cm of snow accumulating at low levels, with the potential for 20-30cm on high ground.
Additionally, the Met Office has added a new yellow warning for Tuesday. While East Lothian and the Scottish Borders are still expected to see cases of scattered snow showers and icy patches until 11am on Tuesday, December 6, the rest of central Scotland and the north are predicted to be hit with snow and ice until 11:59pm.
Some 32 gritters were sent out in Aberdeenshire on Sunday morning and parts of the road network are said to be “impassable”.
