Punters and staff at Macsorley’s bar next to Glasgow Central were in for quite the surprise last night (January 2), when football legend Chris Kamara paid a visit to the family-run boozer. The former footballer and manager turned Sky Sports presenter stopped off at the live music pub to the delight of locals out celebrating the New Year.
The bar shared the moment on Facebook Stories, posting a cheeky selfie of a staff member with the sports icon captioned: “Chris Kamara paying Macsorley’s a visit this evening”, adding a sparkle emoji and a Scotland flag emoji at the end.
His surprise pub trip came the night before Glasgow’s first Old Firm of the year at Celtic Park. While celebs such as Stormzy and Rod Stewart were spotted at the game today (January 3), it’s unclear whether Kamara was in the city specially for the match.
Chris Kamara MBE formerly played for several local English teams in the 70s and 80s before becoming manager of Bradford City in 1995. After a brief stint managing Stoke City, he moved into sports broadcasting and is now best known for his commentary as a Sky Sports presenter- a role that he left in 2022.
