A Derbyshire man has been charged as part of an investigation into a serious assault in a Hampshire town in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Kyle Barnett, 36, of Rydal Way in Clay Cross, has now been charged with wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent following an incident in London Street, Andover.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight police have released the following statement: “Officers attended after receiving a report at 2.53am on Thursday, January 1 that a man in his 40s had been injured during an incident in London Street.
“The man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries to his head. He remains in hospital at this time.
“An investigation was launched and a man was arrested as part of our initial enquiries.
“Kyle Barnett, 36, of Rydal Way, Clay Cross, Derbyshire, has now been charged with wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.”
He was due to appear before Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Friday, January 2.
The incident led to significant disruption in the town centre as police cordoned off parts of Bridge Street for several hours. The victim has not been named.
