East Granby Democratic first selectman sworn in after flipping seat in election – NBC Connecticut

First Selectman Jason Hayes was sworn in Sunday morning at the East Granby Community and Senior Center.  Hayes flipped the seat from Republican Eden Wimpfheimer back in November.

“They’re hungry for change,” said Hayes. “They’re hungry for a voice and I think today we all got fed.”

Hayes spent decades working as a celebrity wig artist and now he wants to help bring the entertainment industry to East Granby.

“I’m looking to bring the film and television industry here,” he said. “Our proximity to the airport is incredible and that’s an industry I have 30 years of experience in.”

Both Democrats and Republicans from the community and leaders in local politics attended the swearing in ceremony.

“He gave a good speech, and he says he wants to bring people together here in East Granby,” said Sen. John Kissel (R-Enfield). “I think that’s all good.”

Rep. John Larson and Sen. Richard Blumenthal also attended the ceremony.

“The outpouring of citizens today, it restores your faith in the very fabric of our democracy,” said Larson.

Officials for the town’s Board of Education and Board of Finance were also sworn in.
