- Forecasters moved the start time of the weather warning forward to midday on Sunday after snow showers hit the north west earlier than originally anticipated.
- The region is experiencing a significant cold snap caused by an Arctic air mass covering the UK. Temperatures are expected to drop into double-figure negatives overnight and may struggle to rise above 0°C during the day.

- Despite the freezing temperatures and snow, thousands of people headed out to enjoy the beautiful scenery and others took part in the Southport half marathon.
- The current yellow weather warning is scheduled to remain in place until midday on Monday, January 5. People are urged to be extra vigilant as they return to work following the Christmas break.
- Inland areas could see between 1 cm and 3 cm of snow accumulation by Monday morning. Some higher elevations may see up to 8cm, with widespread icy stretches expected to form as the showers move across the region.
