Fire crews bravely extinguish blaze near Meadowhall in latest update

Fire crews in South Yorkshire have assured “no one was injured” in the blaze that saw Sheffield’s Meadowhall Shopping Centre covered in smoke.

Commenting on footage posted to YouTube of the blaze, @kimclarke1194 said: “I was there. Fire alarms went off, and it was terrifying. I saw the fire engine, it was crazy. I was just at Meadowhall, and smoke got into it.”

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the fire was located at an industrial unit on Meadowhall Road. While the fire was initially spotted on an embankment overlooking the area, officials clarified it was contained to an industrial site.

The latest statment from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service read: “Last night’s fire near Meadowhall is now out and Meadowhall Road has reopened. We still have one fire engine in attendance, damping down.

“An investigation into the cause of the fire will begin later this morning. Well done to all our staff for their response to this incident, on another busy night for the service.”

South Yorkshire Police have been contacted for further comment regarding the source of the fire. Fire Services confirmed that no one was injured in the fire.
