Daniel Hackney, aged 34, admitted being drunk and disorderly.

Here are the latest cases from the region’s courts:

BENTILEE: Banned driver Jordan Johnson crashed after failing to stop for police. The 26-year-old was disqualified for six months as a ‘totter’ on July 28 after he racked up more than 12 points on his licence.

But North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard he was followed by police as he drove in Bentilee at 1pm on November 27.

Prosecutor Savithru Wijeratne said police had their suspicions about the vehicle and officers went to stop it. They illuminated their blue lights and siren. But Johnson sped off.

Mr Wijeratne said: “He turned right on to Plainfield Grove and collided into a parked vehicle. He abandoned the vehicle and made off on foot. He was later arrested by another police officer. Police checks found he was a disqualified driver and his insurance was invalid.”

Johnson, of Dawlish Drive, Bentilee, pleaded guilty to failing to stop when required; failing to stop after an accident; driving while disqualified; and driving without insurance.

Representing himself, Johnson said he panicked.

He said: “I am going through a rough time. My life has hit rock bottom. When the police turned up, I panicked. I made off.”

Magistrates adjourned the case so an all-options pre-sentence report can be prepared on Johnson. He will learn his fate at the same court on May 11 and his bail was extended.

MEIR: Banned driver Mohammed Raheem has been handed another lengthy ban after he was caught driving while disqualified. North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard the 23-year-old was banned from the roads for 40 months in November 2023.

But he was followed off a petrol station forecourt in Sutherland Road, Longton, by police on November 17.

Prosecutor Kyle Padley said: “Police were parked on the forecourt and saw two drivers. They checked on the Police National Computer and one vehicle was uninsured. It was seen driving off. Police followed and stopped the vehicle. The defendant was the sole occupant. He did initially provide police with false details but did then give his correct details. He is disqualified from driving. He did admit to not having a licence.”

In his police interview Raheem admitted he knew he was disqualified but said he did not know the timeframe.

Raheem, of Hillside Avenue, Meir, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

Tacarat Hussain, mitigating, said: “He was exchanging greetings with someone on the forecourt. He was pulled over. He was compliant. He gave his step dad’s details. He panicked. His mother had been taking medication. His mum called. She had not taken her medication. He drove a short distance from Longton to Fenton to drop the medication off. He accepts it was a foolish decision. He accepts he should not have driven. He is young and somewhat immature.”

Magistrates sentenced Raheem to a 12-month community order with 100 hours unpaid work and a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement. He was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £114 surcharge. He was banned from the roads for 21 months.

BRINDLEY FORD: Thirty-seven-year-old Craig Harley has been fined £80 after he was caught in possession of a class B drug. North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard Harley was arrested in Tunstall Road, Knypersley, for an unrelated matter at 5.45pm on December 19, 2024.

Prosecutor Kyle Padley said: “He was searched and police found in his possession a tub which contained 29.3 grams of the class B drug amphetamine. It had a value of £40.”

Harley, of Outclough Road, Brindley Ford, pleaded guilty to possession of a class B drug.

Osman Mahmood, mitigating, said: “On December 19, 2024 he was searched and amphetamine was found in a tub. He made admissions. It was for personal use. He made full and frank admissions in his interview.”

Mr Mahmood added the case could and should have been concluded earlier.

As well as the fine, Harley, a groundworker, must pay a £32 surcharge. Magistrates ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs.

HANLEY: Drunken Daniel Hackney was arrested after he swore at police. Police were called to KFC, in Market Square, Hanley, at 6.20pm on November 27 because of the 34-year-old’s behaviour towards staff.

Staff told officers the defendant had left but they caught up with him in the doorway at Chopstix. He had a bottle of sauce in his hand. He was drunk and swore at officers as they tried to talk to him.

Prosecutor Helen Shipley told North Staffordshire Justice Centre: “The officers tried to search him. He objected to that. There was lots of effin and jeffin towards the police while under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.”

Hackney, of London Road, Stoke, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly.

Representing himself, Hackney said he is receiving help for his alcoholism. He added he suffers from anxiety and depression.

Magistrates fined Hackney £40 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £16 surcharge.
