Gas company urges customers not to switch off own supply
A spokesperson for Wales and West Utilities has said customers should not switch off their own gas supply. A repair team is set to work through the night to fix the damaged pipe which has been the source of so many outages throughout Saturday.
“Our team is working hard to repair the main, and they will continue working through the night on this challenging repair,” the spokesperson said.
“We are also continuing to visit customers in the area registered on the Priority Services Register to provide them with alternative cooking and heating facilities. We are doing all that we can to reach these customers as quickly as possible, and we appreciate people’s continued patience as we work our way around to them. We continue to ask anyone who is aware of a family member or neighbour who may be vulnerable to check in on them until we can reach them.
“We are aware that some information has been issued by a third party advising customers to switch their own gas off. This advice should not be followed at this time.
“We continue to appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to repair the damaged pipe. We will provide a further update tomorrow morning at 9am”.
