A six-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and thrown from a rooftop, police said on Friday.
The child was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival in the Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh, India. Authorities confirmed that two men, identified as Raju and Veeru, were arrested following a brief gunfight in the Sikandrabad industrial area.
Both suspects sustained gunshot wounds to their legs during the police operation and were taken to hospital for treatment. Officers recovered two firearms and ammunition at the scene.

The victim’s father filed a formal complaint, prompting police to form three special teams to track down the suspects. Superintendent of Police Dr. Tejveer Singh said the accused opened fire when officers attempted to intercept them.
“During initial interrogation, the defendants admitted to their involvement,” Singh told reporters. The girl, who lived in the same building as the suspects, was reportedly attacked while playing on the terrace.
Her family alleges she was sexually assaulted before being thrown from the roof. A post-mortem examination has been ordered to confirm the claims of rape.

Police said further charges will be added to the case once medical findings are available. The incident has sparked outrage in the region, drawing attention to ongoing concerns about crimes against women and children in India.
In a separate case in Banda district, police arrested an 18-year-old woman on January 2 after she allegedly killed a 50-year-old man who attempted to sexually assault her.
The man, identified as Sukhraj Prajapati, was found dead with severe head injuries inflicted by a sharp-edged weapon. Officers recovered the weapon, known locally as a “farsa,” and registered a murder case following a complaint from the victim’s relatives.
