The yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been extended until 11:59pm on Monday night. It reflects an ongoing, but lower impact ice risk ahead of further snow arriving into western areas.

There should not be much more than 2-5cm of snow in and around the Glasgow area but the conditions will still be cold and icy and the Met Office are warning to take care on the roads.

Forecasters have warned people to expect possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers, possible delays or cancellations to rail and air travel, some rural communities could become cut off, power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.

As well as this they have warned there may be a chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces and they have said that some u untreated pavements and cycle paths might be impassable.

They have said: ” Snow showers will continue through Sunday, being brought well inland by strong northerly winds. Showers will become increasingly confined to the far north of Scotland by Monday afternoon but an ice risk will remain across many areas into Monday evening before a spell of more organised snow arrives in the west later.”

They warn that: “People cope better when they have prepared in advance for the risk of power cuts or being cut off from services and amenities due to the snow. It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.

“Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.”
