James McLean

James McLean

James McLean, of Yew Tree Drive, Oswaldtwistle, died peacefully on Thursday, December 18, aged 83 years.

During his life Jim worked for Lancashire Council as a building surveyor in the County Architect’s Department.

In his spare time and during his retirement he enjoyed going caravanning and holidays abroad, especially visiting family in the USA.

He also liked crown green bowling, walking and snooker, as well as amateur radio and Scottish country dancing.

Jim sadly leaves behind his dearly loved wife Joan, his much-loved children Ian and Joanne, his daughter-in-law Wendy and son-in-law Payam, his treasured grandchildren Noah, Sarah, James, Jacob and David, his great grandson Moshe and his dear sister Joan. He will be very sadly missed by all those who knew him.

Stephen Philip Barratt

Stephen Philip Barratt

Stephen, of Station Road in Rishton, passed away aged 79 years on Friday, December 12, at Royal Blackburn Hospital.

The beloved husband of the late Sheila, much loved dad of Charlene, loved father-in-law of Daniel and a dear brother of David.

Stephen started his working life as a market gardener and after moving to Rishton, he became site supervisor at Moorhead High School in Accrington.

He was a keen cyclist and rode his bike all over the Northwest, but his main passion was motorbikes, owning them for most of his life.

He was a member of BMW and Ducati motorbike clubs and also St Peter and St Paul’s Church in Rishton.

He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.

The funeral will be held at Accrington Crematorium on Monday, January 5 at 10.20am.

Pauline Hope

Pauline Hope passed away peacefully on December 18, at Wellfield Care Home, aged 82 years.

A beloved wife, much loved mum, devoted grandma and a good friend to many.

The funeral service will take place on Monday, January 5 at Accrington Crematorium at 9am.

William Finn

William Finn passed away peacefully on Friday, December 19, aged 85 years.

Bill, much loved husband to Anne, dad to Jane, Kate and Jonathan, grandad to Caleb, Christopher and Jon, and great grandad, brother and uncle, will be greatly missed.

He was a keen crown green bowler and will be fondly remembered by fellow bowlers both in the Hyndburn area and in Thornton Cleveleys, where he played often.

He had a lengthy teaching career at Holy Family / Mount Carmel High school and will be remembered with respect by many ex-pupils and colleagues.

A Requiem Mass will be held at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Oswaldtwistle, on Wednesday, January 7, at 10am, this will be followed by a short ceremony at Accrington Crematorium.

Family flowers only please, donations in memoriam to Versus Arthritis. These can be made via the donations box placed at church.

Thomas William Pearson (Tom)

Thomas William Pearson (Tom)

Tom passed away peacefully at his home, aged 84 years on December 21.

A devoted and much-loved husband of Enid, a loving and loved dad to Ann, a cherished grandad to John and Charlotte, and a proud great grandad to Noah, Penelope and Ivy, Tom was also a respected and valued friend to many.

Tom spent his working life in insurance sales and service, where he became a well-known and trusted face to all his clients.

He was truly dedicated to his work, often going above and beyond, and took great pride in what he did.

A people person by nature, Tom loved spending time in the company of others and would happily chat about anything to anyone, always showing a genuine interest in other people’s stories.

Highly organised with a meticulous eye for detail, everything had its place, and Tom had his own well established way of doing things.

He greatly enjoyed acting and singing and was a former member of Oswaldtwistle Amateur Dramatic Society, as well as a member of All Saints’ Choir and the Hyndburn Singers.

A devoted family man, Tom always looked forward to time spent with his family and was immensely proud of their achievements in life.

Tom enjoyed holidays, spending many happy times at his favourite UK destinations, including North Devon and Keswick, as well as enjoying many wonderful cruises.

He loved to keep busy and generously gave much of his time supporting various charity projects. He was an active member of the Freemasons, Albert Edward Lodge, and was also a keen knitter, often found in his chair making dishcloths.

Family flowers only by request, donations are being gratefully received in Tom’s memory on behalf of North West Air Ambulance and All Saints’ Church.
