Devastating tributes have flooded in after the shocking death of Irish Strongman champion, Patrick ‘Pa’ O’Dwyer, at just 40 years old.

O’Dwyer, hailing from Co Limerick, claimed the Ireland’s Strongest Man title on five separate occasions. In 2018, he made history as the first Irishman in two decades to capture the U.K.’s Strongest Man crown.

Raised on a farm in Rathkeale, the “Limerick Lion” spent his early twenties working on road crews before discovering his passion for weightlifting. He rose through the ranks to become one of Europe’s premier strongmen, securing the U.K.’s Strongest Man championship in 2018, reports the Irish Mirror.

“He brought strength, laughter and warmth wherever he went and truly was one of life’s larger-than-life personalities. Anyone who met him will surely have a story to tell.”
