An Emmerdale star has revealed he had to cancel a major event to take part in the epic Corriedale crossover episode.

Corriedale will be a landmark moment where fans of Emmerdale will see characters from the Yorkshire soap feature in an episode alongside Coronation Street legends. The special Corriedale episode will air on ITV on Monday, January 5. It has been revealed that a multi-vehicle pile-up will be at the centre of the drama that sees the worlds of Coronation Street and Emmerdale collide for one night only.

Fan favourite characters from both soaps will appear in the episode – 2026 is sure to be a big year for Emmerdale with Corriedale at the forefront of it. The special edition will launch ITV’s new ‘soap power hour’ scheduling pattern for Coronation Street and Emmerdale.

Corriedale will air on Monday, January 5 at 8pm. To launch the crossover cast members, from both soaps, attended a glitzy première at The National Science and Media Museum – in Bradford. We’ve been bringing you lots of gossip about Corriedale.

Ryan Hawley, who plays Robert Sugden in Emmerdale, has revealed his commitment to the Corriedale cause saw the actor cancel his 40th birthday celebrations – so he could film scenes. He explained: “Well, it was actually my 40th birthday. I cancelled it as I wanted to be a part of it (Corriedale). Having seen it (the Corriedale episode), I’m immensely proud.

“Not just to be part of it but to be part of an incredible cast. I thought every single person was incredible. It is amazing what we can do.”

Ryan joked that he did eventually have a 40th party. He said: “I have, it was dinner with the family…”

Ryan, who returned to Emmerdale in 2025, made an admission about not enjoying watching himself on-screen while appearing at a Correidale press conference. He said: “I don’t particularly enjoy the experience (of watching himself act) but, honestly, I was blown away by how good everyone was.”
