A top ITV soap boss has addressed fan ‘grumbles’ when discussing the upcoming Corriedale crossover episode.
Corriedale will be a landmark moment where fans of Emmerdale will see characters from the Yorkshire soap feature in an episode alongside Coronation Street legends. The special Corriedale episode will air on ITV on Monday, January 5. It has been revealed that a multi-vehicle pile-up will be at the centre of the drama that sees the worlds of Coronation Street and Emmerdale collide for one night only.
Fan favourite characters from both soaps will appear in the episode – 2026 is sure to be a big year for Emmerdale with Corriedale at the forefront of it. The special edition will launch ITV’s new ‘soap power hour’ scheduling pattern for Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
Corriedale will air on Monday, January 5 at 8pm. To launch the crossover cast members, from both soaps, attended a glitzy première at The National Science and Media Museum – in Bradford. We’ve been bringing you lots of gossip about Corriedale.
Iain MacLeod, the executive producer for Coronation Street and Emmerdale, was asked about a Corriedale press conference about the response to the crossover and ‘fan pushback’, in general, with regards to the storylines of ITV soaps.
Iain explained: “People will grumble about soaps because they love them. They will be critical of everything you do. In the same measure, and probably more, we hope, they will love what you do.

“No matter what stories you tell, someone will have issues with them. Genuinely speaking, our viewers get behind what we are doing. I wouldn’t say there’s been any pushback to any particular story – other than a few isolated voices on Twitter. Genuinely not, whether the cast have experienced anything different, in their dealings, I’m not so sure.”
Ian has previously issued an update on the future of Emmerdale and Coronation Street – alongside addressing whether we might see a second Corriedale outing. He said: “People love Corrie and people love Emmerdale. They are distinct entities and they have their own voice and their own sense of humour and their own way of telling stories – they wouldn’t blend long-term at all.
“It is brilliant to bring them together for this. But, there are no plans to do it in the future. Sorry to be a killjoy.”
Pressed on whether there might be a long-lasting Corriedale legacy, Ian replied: “There are two stories which emerge. They do pursue parallel lines. One in one show and one in the other – so there’s some degree of those in conversation with each other.
“But, not literally, there’s no crossover or anything like that. In the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), all those characters exist in the same universe and, now, the same is true for Emmerdale and Corrie.”
