Lucknow Police have obtained a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against a junior resident doctor at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), who was booked last month for allegedly sexually exploiting a fellow woman doctor on the pretext of marriage and attempting to coerce her into converting her religion. Police said he is on the run.
Police said they have announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for information leading to his arrest and decided to approach court seeking directions to attach his property.
Police said teams conducted raids at his residence in Uttarakhand and his ancestral house in Pilibhit but are yet to gather any information about his whereabouts. “Raids are being conducted continuously to trace the doctor, who is on the run,” said Vishwajeet Srivastava, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Lucknow.
The Station House Officer of the police station concerned said the decision to approach the court to attach the accused’s property was taken after he remained untraceable despite sustained efforts to locate him.
The medical university has already suspended the accused doctor in view of the serious allegations against him.
The complainant belongs to a different community, police said.
According to police, the complainant had alleged that the accused repeatedly raped her on the pretext of marriage. She alleged that she became pregnant in September last year and when she told the accused, he gave her abortion pills.
She had also claimed that she came in contact with another woman, who identified herself as his wife. According to the complainant, the woman told her she had converted for the marriage, which was solemnised last February.
