The final month of 2025 saw a collection of criminals put behind bars in Derby.

Here, reporter Martin Naylor highlights a handful of the cases we covered in December at the city’s courts.

Derby knifepoint robber Adam Short

Knifepoint robber Adam Short targeted two victims within an hour of each other in Derby.

The 27-year-old targeted his first victim in the city centre before striking again in Normanton.

The first attack happened when a 45-year-old man was walking along Becket Well Lane, close to Vaillant Live, when he was approached by the defendant, who was clutching a knife. He demanded that he hand over his phone.

When the victim refused, the 27-year-old attacker cut him to the neck, before fleeing the scene.

The second attack happened just an hour later in Arboretum Square in Normanton when a 31-year-old man was threatened and had his mobile phone stolen.

Detective Sergeant Louise Munday said: “Short is a serious offender who threatened two people with a knife in the city within an hour of each other.

“We, like the victims and general public at large, will be very pleased to see that he has been put away for a long time.”

The incidents, which happened on the morning of Thursday, October 2 and the defendant, of no fixed address, was charged and pleaded guilty to robbery, attempted robbery and being in possession of a bladed article and was jailed for four years and six months.

Prolific shoplifter Haig Meads

Prolific shoplifter Haig Meads was jailed for 24 weeks after breaching his Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) by stealing from shops in Ilkeston.

The 33-year-old, of no fixed address, had been handed an order on December 1, 2023, for two years, which banned him from entering Boots and the Co-op after he committed a number of thefts.

But he breached it on several occasions between October 21 and December 1 this year by committing further offences.

On a number of occasions, he targeted the Tesco store in Rutland Street and Boots in Bath Street, taking items including Christmas gift sets, electric shavers and a TV.

Meads was charged with six shop thefts and breaching his CBO which he pleaded guilty to.

East Street knife-carrying teen Danny Bramley

Knife-carrying Derby teenager Danny Bramley turned to drug dealing so he could pay for items for his new flat.

The 19-year-old and co-defendant Tyrell Mitchell, 25, had wraps of both crack cocaine and heroin on them when they were arrested in Greggs in East Street.

Messages on phones seized also showed they were selling to customers with some of the younger man’s profits being used to furnish his address.

Sentencing the pair, Recorder Graham Huston said: “As well as the drugs there was evidence that you had rented a car and employed someone to drive it in exchange for crack cocaine.

“The knife you had was a particularly aggressive and menacing one and potentially lethal if used.

“These drugs destroy people, they destroy families and the cost to society is immense.

“Mr Bramley you were not in debt and you chose to deal drugs knowing what you were doing and what would happen if you were caught.

“You had a flat, you had a desire to do that up and make it as nice a place as possible and that was your motivation to commit these offences.”

Police arrested the duo on October 12, this year.

Both men pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs and possession of a knife in public.

Bramley, of Berwick Avenue, Chaddesden, was sent to prison for two years and four months.

Mitchell, of Wadebridge Grove, Alvaston, was sent to prison for four years.

Ilkeston burglar Mitchell Calladine

Burglar Mitchell Calladine was jailed after repeatedly targeting the same home in Ilkeston.

The victim was alerted to the attempted burglary at his home by a neighbour, who called them on November 15 to tell them they had heard loud banging and thought someone was breaking into the property on Drummond Road.

The homeowner attended the scene and chased the burglar down the street before making a citizen’s arrest on him in a nearby park and calling police.

Officers attended and arrested Calladine on suspicion of burglary.

The victim told police they recognised the suspect as the same man who he had chased out of his garden several days earlier.

Calladine initially gave a no comment interview to officers but later admitted targeting the property.

The 23-year-old, formerly of Lissett Avenue, Ilkeston, pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted burglary.

Detective Sergeant Louise Munday, of Derbyshire Police, said: “Calladine repeatedly targeted the same house causing misery for the victim and we are pleased to see that he has now been taken off our streets for a very long time.

“I would like to pay tribute to the victim for their cooperation throughout the investigation in helping to secure a conviction for this offence.

“Burglary and attempted burglary is a serious crime that can have a lasting effect on victims, which is why we have a dedicated team working around the clock here in Derbyshire to ensure the criminals insistent on doing this are brought to justice.”

Chesterfield Mamba dealer Aaron Moore

Aaron Moore was jailed after being caught with illegal drugs during a police raid.

After officers received reports that drug dealing was taking place at a home in St Helen’s Street, Newbold, Chesterfield, they searched the property and discovered a large amount of cannabis inside, and arrested the defendant.

The teams also found two large bags of the Mamba in the kitchen.

The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of Class B drugs with intent to supply and was sentenced to 13 months in prison.

Sergeant Alice Parker said: “Moore was responsible for flooding the streets of Chesterfield with cannabis and mamba, which are both highly dangerous drugs that can devastate communities.

“By locking him up we have disrupted that supply line into the town and we are pleased he has been taken off our streets.”

Houseboat drug dealer Wayne Pegg

Police found £3,600 of heroin and crack cocaine when they searched a house boat linked to Derby drug dealer Wayne Pegg moored at a marina.

Phones seized from him when his Mercedes was stopped also showed he had been sending out mass marketing messages to customers and receiving enquiries on prices from them.

Jailing the 24-year-old for two years and seven months, Judge Steve Coupland said: “You don’t need me to tell you that class A drugs ruin lives.

“They ruin the lives of the people who sell them and they ruin the lives of the people who choose to buy and take them.

“Many cases that come before the courts involve class A drugs and the links to them and this case is aggravated because there were two different types of drugs.

“Set against that, you are still only 24, a very young man and this sentence will cause particular hardship for you because firstly it is your first taste of custody and secondly you will be separated from your two young children.”

Police stopped the Mercedes Pegg was driving at Redhill Marina, near Thrumpton, Nottinghamshire, on November 10, this year.

The defendant, of Duchess Way, Chellaston, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply both drugs and to a charge of being concerned in the supply of heroin.

A Proceeds of Crime Act hearing, which could see Pegg stripped of any cash and assets, will take place on April 24.
