A college in Leicestershire is being praised after securing first place in an annual competition. The students in the educational facility also placed highly in other categories.

Brooksby College, part of the Loughborough College Group, is ending the autumn term on a high after placing highly in a series of successful livestock competitions earlier this month.

Starting with a strong performance, the college headed to Queniborough Farmer’s Competition, securing the award for best ewes and lambs. This was quickly followed by the Uppingham Fatstock Show, where three agriculture students represented the college, placing first for the pen of paired cattle, homebred Hereford heifers, and third for the college’s homebred pigs.

Following the brilliant results at the Queniborough and Uppingham events, placing well at the Melton and Belvoir Fatstock Show was the icing on the cake, the college has said. Brooksby’s agriculture students also secured third place in the Best Lightweight Steer category and fifth place for Best Lightweight Heifer.

When reflecting on the hard work that went into the Melton and Belvoir Fatstock Show, Rebecca Stretton, curriculum quality lead for agriculture at Brooksby College, said: “Our team of three students represented the college fantastically.

“They arrived early to Melton to get the cattle ready and presented them for sale within the ring once all show activities had finished.”

“A special mention must also go to Luke and Joshua, our farm team, for getting the cattle to Melton and for supporting our show team with all of the preparation.”
