Vile baby killer Lucy Letby spent a miserable birthday alone behind bars without so much as a cake as she serves time taking seven babies’ lives – with her only company being letters from twisted fans.
The serial murderer turned 36 today while serving a 15 whole life sentences at HMP Bronzefield in Ashford, Surrey, where her company includes a gallery of cruel criminals, including Sara Sharif killer Beniash Batool and child sex ringleader Marie Black. Despite having reportedly befriended some of them, Letby had a “bleak” birthday fifth birthday behind bars, her barrister Mark McDonald has said, and a “bleak existence” in the jail.
The former neonatal nurse has, however, received letters from her coterie of twisted supporters, who the barrister said have been corresponding with the killer during her time behind bars.

Speaking to The Mirror, he said she has been expected to receive a number of cards and letters from backers, who have continued to throw their weight behind the convicted killer as the parents of her victims grieve the loss of their newborn children. He said: “She is getting people writing to her now and sending her cards but sometimes it’s a cruel reminder that you are in prison and that this is another birthday that you have spent in your cell.”
Supporters have long claimed Letby was innocent, and a panel of so-called experts has claimed to have evidence proving as such. In February last year, the panel said it was in possession of evidence proving her innocence and suggesting the deaths of seven children were due to poor medical care and natural causes.

The claims were firmly slammed by the parent of one slain baby as a “publicity stunt”, and lawyers representing others have said the findings were “full of analytical holes” and “a rehash” of the defence case
Panel chairman Dr Shoo Lee said the evidence was meant to provide “comfort and assurance in knowing the truth about what really happened”, but the parent of a baby boy told the Daily Mail “every aspect of what they are doing is so disrespectful, it is very upsetting”.

She added: “They said the parents want to know the truth, but we’ve had the truth. We believe in the British justice system, we believe the jury made the right decision. We already have the truth and this panel of so-called experts don’t speak for us.”
Mr McDonald has said expert reports would be vital to efforts to ensure her latest birthday behind prison bars would be the last. He told the Mirror: “I speak to Lucy most weeks. There are the initial pleasantries, but we will soon turn to work and the new expert reports being submitted in the coming weeks.
“She has always maintained her innocence. From the moment she was accused and her world collapsed, she has insisted that she did not commit the crimes for which she has been condemned.”

“Early last year we held a press conference with the head of a large panel of expert neonatologists. Professor Shoo Lee had brought together experts from all over the world who, having read all the prosecution reports and medical notes, concluded that no crime had been committed on the neonatal unit and the Countess of Chester Hospital.
“The babies for which Lucy Letby had been convicted of harming died because the unit, like so many others across the country, was in crisis. If all these experts are right, then she has spent the most formative of her years in prison.”
Mr McDonald went on to extraordinarily claim the former nurse, who was found to have killed babies by injecting air into their bloodstreams, earning her the nickname the “angel of death” acthally “loves children”.
