New details have been confirmed ahead of a major extension at a Nottinghamshire supermarket’s fuel station to provide an “improved offer” to drivers.

The Motor Fuel Group (MFG) was first given planning permission in May 2025 for an extension at its Morrisons fuel station by the supermarket off Welbeck Road in Mansfield Woodhouse.

Mansfield District Council said the permission was conditional on further details being confirmed and they have just been submitted, confirming that the extension will involve the removal of existing parking bays and the creation of six electric vehicle charging bays.

MFG said in a report for the council: “The UK Government have placed a new emphasis on electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the UK. As part of this drive, it is essential that there is a comprehensive and competitive EV charging network in place.

“MFG are looking to roll-out an extensive supply of EV charging facilities at existing Morrisons sites across the UK to diversify their existing offer, with the aspiration to make it as easy to charge your vehicle as re-fuelling with petrol or diesel.

“As part of MFG’s proposals to upgrade facilities across their portfolio of Morrison petrol filling stations they are also taking the opportunity to extend the existing kiosk/shop, to provide an improved offer to visiting motorists.”

MFG’s report says the current shop at the Mansfield Woodhouse fuel station will extend by 89 square metres, with a tree being felled as a result and a new kerb being installed.

Mansfield District Council will now have to confirm it is happy with the new details before development work can begin.

Ten parking bays around the fuel station will also be removed as part of the plans, with four of them being turned into an area accommodating two jet wash bays.

A push to provide more electric vehicle charging points has seen a partnership comprising the Nottinghamshire, Nottingham, Derbyshire and Derby councils deliver over 700 sockets across the region in recent years.

The charging points have been delivered at sites including council-owned car parks, retail outlets and park and rides.
