A restaurant once dubbed Bolton’s best has been put up for sale.

The Cherry Tree at Blackrod had previously been a pub but relaunched amidst the pandemic of 2020 as a restaurant, managing to attract a wide crowd of diners who praised it for its ‘most beautiful’ set up of cherry orchards alongside a menu of good food, hearty roast dinners and other treats based around British staples.

The restaurant, near Chorley, has garnered a big reputation with an impressive 4.5-star rating on TripAdvisor and being named one of OpenTable’s Top 100 Restaurants in 2022. It has also been voted Bolton’s Best Restaurant in 2020 and given the Diner’s Choice prize in 2023, the MEN reports.

Now the ‘impressive and highly profitable’ bistro has now been marketed for sale on Rightmove, where it is accepting offers over £1,950,000. The 220-cover restaurant and bar is on the market as both a leasehold or freehold, with a net turnover at the year ending August 2024 of £3,265,986. It has a reported gross profit of £2,207,027.

The venue, which is described as being in a ‘very popular destination’, comes with a 100-space car park, with planning consent already approved for a function room extension. The extension could provide a further 80 covers and serve as an additional source of income for any new owner.

A description of the venue on the listing, via Graham and Sibbold, says: “An impressive, highly regarded family owned restaurant and bar serving classic British food in a smart and stylish setting. The Cherry Tree Restaurant & Bar is a popular destination venue, well located on the A6 Chorley Road with more than 350,000 living within a 10km radius of the business.

“The Cherry Tree has been developed and improved by its current owners, having formally traded as a traditional public house. The business which operates with a full complement of staff currently trades as a venue offering a high quality dining and drinking experience.”

It has been advertised as having the opportunity for a new purchase to ‘increase and further develop trade’. The bistro has not publicly addressed the listing with it understood that it is continuing to trade as normal in the meantime with the restaurant having just recently celebrated New Year’s Eve with a Masquerade Ball.

The Cherry Tree has been contacted by the M.E.N for more information. The listing on Rightmove can be found here.
