Pensioner dies in hospital after being hit by van in Stranraer

An elderly woman has died in hospital after being hit by a van in Stranraer. The incident happened around 10.20am on Saturday, January 3, on Sheuchan Street near the junction with Park Lane.

The crash involved a female pedestrian and a white Vauxhall Vivaro van. Emergency services attended and the pedestrian, an 85-year-old woman, was taken to hospital where she later died. No one else was injured.

The road was closed for crash investigation work and re-opened around 7.15pm the same day. Sergeant Scott Costley said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. “We are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch. Also, if you were driving in the area please check any dash-cam footage you have to see if it has captured something that could assist with our investigation.” If you can help please call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0840 of Saturday, January 3, 2026.
