Pictures show aftermath of Cornwall car fire

A vehicle was reduced to a burnt husk after video captured the fire drama

Pictures have emerged showing the burnt shell of a car which caught fire on a busy Cornwall road. The incident happened shortly before 10am in a layby on the A39 at Perranarworthal.

Images shared with CornwallLive taken by a passenger in a passing vehicle demonstrate the extent of the damage caused to the vehicle. Its inside appears almost completely gutted, with only a fire-scarred exterior remaining.

An earlier video – which you can watch at the top of this page – showed firefighters valiantly working to control the blaze.

A crew from Truro Fire Station was called to battle the fire. The firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze with the help of breathing gear and two hoses. The service said the incident was left in the hands of police.

The car was almost completely destroyed by fire

“Fire Control received multiple calls to this incident where a car was fully engulfed in fire,” Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said.

“One appliance from Truro Fire Station attended and used two breathing apparatus and two hosereel to extinguish the fire. The police attended the incident for traffic management.

Cones were places around what was left of the car

“The fire was extinguished and the incident was left in the hands of the police. There are no further details for this incident.”

Devon and Cornwall Police has been contacted for comment.
