Plymouth Argyle have completed their first piece of January transfer window business by extending the contract of experienced midfielder Joe Ralls.

The 32-year-old former Cardiff City joined the Pilgrims as a free agent in November and after taking a little time to get up to full match fitness he has become an influential player for Tom Cleverley’s young side.

His short-term deal with Argyle was due to end after the League One game against Burton Albion at Home Park on Sunday afternoon.

However, the club confirmed this evening that Ralls would be extending his stay with the Pilgrims until the end of the season.

Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley said: “Joe has made an immediate impact since his arrival at the club, both on and off the pitch.

“His lengthy Football League experience has been invaluable to our young squad and when he has appeared he has shown just how good a footballer he is.

“We are really pleased to secure Joe to a new contract and look forward to his continued contribution,” added the Pilgrims’ boss.

Ralls has made five starts and two substitute appearances for the Pilgrims in League One, and scored the winning goal when they beat Rotherham United at the Theatre of Greens on December 13.

Argyle’s main priority for the January transfer window is to add to their attacking options, especially with Owen Oseni set to be ruled out for the whole months by an ankle ligament injury.

As it stands, the only two strikers that Cleverley has available for selection are top scorer Lorent Tolaj and Bim Pepple.
