Police increase canal patrols after animals hit with slingshots

Police patrol canal after reports of animal abuse.

• Officers from Gwent Police have been patrolling a canal after reports were made of slingshots being used to harm and injure wildlife in the area.
• Patrols were conducted along the canal in Pontypool where the reports highlighting the concerns were made.
• Further patrols will be made to ensure the safety of the animals in the area.
• A spokesperson for the force said: “PCSO536 & PCSO340 have been conducting patrols along the Canal today (Saturday) due to the increase of reports highlighting concerns over the use of slingshots being used to cause harm/injuries to wildlife.”
• Adding: “Further patrols to be undertaken. Please report any incidents via 101 or 999.”
• Gwent Police has also released a statement – that you can read here – asking parents and guardians to know where their children are and what they are doing after increased reports of anti-social behaviour in Cwmbran town centre.
