Police issue tragic update after driver airlifted to hospital

The Volvo driver, a man in his 50s, collided with a tree and has since sadly died

Police have issued a tragic update after a driver was seriously hurt in a Worcestershire crash.

The motorist, who was driving a blue Volvo, collided with a tree on Goosehill Lane, near Hanbury on Friday morning, January 2.

He sustained serious injuries and had to be airlifted to hospital after the 9.50am incident.

Sadly, police have confirmed he has since died from his injuries. In an update on January 3, West Mercia Police said: “The driver of the car has since died. Our thoughts remain with his family.”

Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses, urging anyone with information to get in touch.

The force said: “The collision occurred prior to 9.50am and involved one car, a blue Volvo which collided with a tree. The driver, a man in his 50s, was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.”

The road was closed for a number of hours, but has now re-opened.

PC Owen Steer added: “A man was found seriously injured at the scene of the collision and our thoughts are with him and his family.

“We are keen to establish exactly when and how the collision occurred, and we would urge anyone who may have seen the car, which we believe was travelling towards Droitwich along Goosehill from the general direction of Himbleton to please get in touch.”
