Pune realtor linked to Tipu Pathan gang, wanted in MCOCA case, dies by suicide; FIR against former NCP corporator Faruk Inamdar

An NCP candidate for the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) polls was among the four persons booked after a 57-year-old realtor died allegedly by suicide on Saturday in Pune.

According to police, Sadiq Hussain Kapur, a resident of Sayyad Nagar in Hadapsar, was found dead at his office in Kumar Palace in Pune Camp around 6.30 pm.

The four persons were booked for charges including abetment of suicide and extortion after they allegedly harassed Sadiq by demanding Rs 50 lakh from him repeatedly in over a financial deal.

Police found a purported suicide note of about 30 pages, in which Sadiq had allegedly named Faruk Inamdar, a former NCP corporator from Hadapsar, and others.

Faruk Inamdar is contesting the January 15 PMC polls from ward number 41.

According to police, Sadiq who was booked under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) by the Pune city police in an offence linked to the Tipu Pathan gang.

A press release issued by senior police inspector Girishkumar Dighavkar Sunday stated that Sadiq’s son Sajid Kapur (27) filed a complaint against Faruk Yasin Inamdar, Juhur Mohammad Sayyad and Tanvir Ibrahim Maniyar, at the Lashkar police station.

Based on this complaint, an FIR was lodged against the four persons under Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) sections 108, 308 (2), 3(5). “Investigation into this case is on,” said Dighavkar.

Meanwhile, police said Sadiq was allegedly found to be working with gangster Tipu Pathan (35) of Mohammadwadi, who is an accused in about 25 serious offences like murder, attempt to murder, and extortion. Pathan and several members of his gang are currently in jail.

Police had intensified after action against Tipu Pathan after a video of him hurling money during a qawwali programme in the city had gone viral in April 2025.

Then, in the same month, the police arrested Tipu and others including his brother Ejaz, in a land grab and extortion case at the Kalepadal police station.

Police had invoked the MCOCA against the Tipu Pathan gang in this case. Also, his gang member Shahrukh alias Atti Rahim (29), wanted in this case, was gunned down by the police during an encounter in Solapur on June 15, 2025.

Meanwhile, in November, police invoked MCOCA against the Tipu Pathan gang in one more land grab case at the Kalepadal police station, based on a complaint filed by a woman from Mumbai.

Police said Sadiq Kapur was named as accused in this case for his alleged role in the land grab. He has been on the run since then, police said.

Meanwhile, in September, police and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), had in a joint action razed alleged illegal construction done by Tipu Pathan at the Khwaja Manzil building at Sayyad Nagar, using bulldozer machine.
