Pune woman kills 2-year-old ailing daughter, dies by suicide | Pune News

A 28-year-old woman in Pune allegedly died by suicide on Friday morning after strangling her two-year-old daughter, who was suffering from a bone disease, at their residence in the city’s Warje area, the police said.

The police identified the deceased as Chhaya Devadkar and her daughter, Sharvi. Their bodies were discovered when Chhaya’s husband, Adinath Devadkar, 30, an electrician, returned to their home in Gokul Nagar from work.

Adinath lodged a First Information Report in this case at the Warje Malwadi police station, and the police booked Chhaya under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

According to the police, Adinath and his family stayed in a house behind the Kargil Farm House. Adinath left home around 9 am for work, and when he returned around 1.30 pm, he found the door closed, the police said. “He knocked multiple times, but there was no response, so he informed the police. A police team reached the spot and broke down the door to enter the house. His wife and daughter were found unconscious. They were pronounced dead at the hospital. We have found a suicide note by the mother,” Police Sub-Inspector Vinayak Kapse, the investigating officer of this case, said.

The police probe has revealed that Chhaya was allegedly distressed over her daughter’s ill health. The bodies of the mother and daughter have been handed over to the family after the postmortem, and further investigation is on, the police said.
