Sales executive, broker booked for duping firm of Rs 2.95 crore | Mumbai News

The Bandra-Kurla-Complex (BKC) police have booked a sales executive and a broker for allegedly duping a company to the tune of Rs 2.95 crore. The company’s office is situated in Bharat Diamond Bourse, Diamond Market, BKC Bandra (East), and deals with the purchase and sale of the diamond. The police have been searching for the accused, and both are at large.

The suspects have been identified as Dhaval Patel, who was working in the firm as a sales executive, and Kaushik Sutaria, who was working as a broker.

According to the police, the complainant, Jignesh Bhayani, a resident of Borivali, has worked at Kira Diam LLP as a manager for the past two years. The firm provides diamonds to the traders and brokers in the diamond market for a specific period on the basis of the cash receipt. Once the payment is completed within the given period, they make the original bills of the purchase.

The sales executive who works in the firm gives diamonds to the traders or brokers for a specific period on a cash receipt, and the finance department takes the follow-up to ensure the payment comes on time from the purchasers. Once the payment is completed, the concerned purchaser is given the bills for their transaction. The company does not deal in cash transactions, and the employees in the firm are aware, said a police officer.

Patel, who lives in Mira Road, has been working in the firm as a sales executive since August 2024. Patel showed diamonds to diamond traders and brokers as per their demands and sold them following the company’s policy. Patel has sold diamonds earlier, and he was the trusted sales executive in the company. Between September and December this year, Patel had given diamonds to two firms in six transactions through a broker known as Kaushik Sutaria on the basis of cash receipts mentioned in the FIR.

The finance department started contacting Patel to verify whether he has spoken to both parties, as the stipulated period for receiving the amount of the given diamond was coming to an end. Patel confirmed that the payment will be completed on time, but he took medical leave from the office on December 15. When the manager went to his residence on December 19, he learned that Patel did not come to his residence from December 15. During further enquiries with his family members, the complainant was informed that Patel had gone to Dubai for his office purposes. The complainant then suspected foul play and informed the owner of the firm. During further probes, the complainant found that Patel made bills for two companies with the intention to cheat and allegedly sold the diamond to another firm mentioned in the FIR.

The complainant then approached the BKC police station, and a case of cheating and breach of trust was registered against Patel and Sutaria.
