Multi-million pound plans to build a seven-storey block of luxury apartments on Blackpool seafront are anticipated to finally see fruition in 2027.
The Ambassador Hotel, on the Promenade at North Shore, was demolished in 2020 after it became an eyesore and was deemed to be unsafe, especially after a huge blaze there in 2018.
Ambitious proposals entail plans for a development of 26 two-bedroom, “5-star luxury” serviced apartments for holiday rentals after planners gave the seven-storey scheme the green light.
It was initially anticipated that work would begin in early 2023, with a spring 2024 launch, but work has still not begun, three years down the line.
However, it is hoped that the next stage of the scheme can press on in 2026.
The project, officially named “The New Ambassador”, is a joint venture by Dutch investment group Ciconia, with Cifra Solutions managing.

As the site currently stands, hoardings are advertising that the holiday let project will be “coming soon in 2027”.
Ciconia’s website states: “This is a wonderful opportunity to invest in a unique complex with 26 luxury apartments by the sea in Northwest England.
“The project involves the realization of new construction and holding for long-term holiday rental in a joint venture. It is a safe investment through ownership of shares.”
The website says the minimum investment per investor is £20,000 and the total equity required is £1,800,000.
Last year, a number of planning conditions attached to planning consent were successfully discharged, as the scheme moved forward.
Site owner Ged O’Mahoney has expressed confidence in the town’s future and sees the project as a way to improve the quality of holiday accommodation available.
Before its demolition, The Ambassador was a 2-star hotel with 36 rooms, a restaurant serving breakfast, and offered views of the promenade and sea. The demolition closed a section of the promenade for safety reasons during the process.
