Snow in Ballydesmond, Co. Cork this afternoon
Cork and Waterford are now under a Status Yellow Snow/Ice Warning – set to last for just a few hours this evening.
The alert was just issued by Met Éireann as many in Munster started seeing the first snowfall of winter and sharing snaps on social media. It came into effect at 17.20pm and will last until 8pm this evening, with the national forecaster warning of “rain turning to snow as it clears southwards with some accumulations possible.”
Hazardous travel conditions and poor visibility are expected. And while this evening’s snowfall might not last long – the heavy frost and low temps will continue for the next few days at least, with windchill as low as -10C expected in some parts of the country tomorrow morning. Met Éireann has already issued a range of low temperature and snow/ice warnings for many counties which will expire at 11am on Monday. These include:
- Snow-Ice warning for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Connacht, Louth – Valid from 8.22am Sunday (today) to 11.00am Monday
- Low Temperature/Ice warning for Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford, Wicklow, Munster – Valid from 5pm Sunday (today) to 11.00am Monday.
As many head back to work or school tomorrow – be sure to take extra care on the roads as severe frost and icy stretches are expected in many areas.
