Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur and Hadapsar–Yavat Road Projects Cleared; Construction to Begin Soon by Montecarlo Company

Hadapsar–Yawat and Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur corridors set to boost connectivity, cut travel time, and support industrial growth

Work on two major highway projects in Pune district is expected to begin within a month, with Ahmedabad-based infrastructure major Montecarlo Ltd emerging as the lowest bidder (L1) for both projects. The Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) is in the final stages of completing tender formalities and plans to award the work shortly, officials said.

The two projects — the Hadapsar–Yawat highway and the Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur corridor are seen as critical to easing traffic congestion and improving freight movement across key industrial and urban belts of Pune district.

According to officials, Montecarlo Ltd has quoted the lowest bids for both projects, clearing the way for early commencement once administrative approvals are completed. MSIDC has indicated that the work orders will be issued after the final approval process, following which construction activity is expected to start within the next four weeks.

The Hadapsar–Yawat project has an estimated cost of around ₹6,426 crore. This corridor is crucial as it connects Pune city with Solapur road and further towards eastern Maharashtra. The stretch witnesses heavy movement of freight vehicles and daily commuters, often resulting in severe traffic congestion. Once completed, the upgraded highway is expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve road safety.

The second project, the Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur corridor, has an estimated cost of approximately ₹6,222 crore. This route is a lifeline for Pune’s industrial ecosystem, linking major manufacturing hubs such as Chakan, Talegaon, and the MIDC areas around Shikrapur. The corridor also forms part of the broader logistics network connecting Pune with Mumbai, Nashik, and Aurangabad.

Officials said both projects will involve major road widening, strengthening, and the construction of elevated sections at critical junctions to ensure smoother traffic flow. Service roads, improved drainage systems, and safety features are also part of the project scope.

MSIDC sources noted that tenders for these projects had been floated earlier and received strong response from leading infrastructure companies. After technical evaluation, financial bids were opened, with Montecarlo quoting the lowest amounts for both corridors.

Once completed, the projects are expected to bring long-term benefits to commuters, transporters, and industries. Reduced congestion and faster movement of goods are likely to improve logistics efficiency, lower transportation costs, and support economic activity in Pune district.

The projects are also expected to support future urban expansion by improving connectivity between Pune city, its rapidly growing suburbs, and surrounding industrial zones. Officials added that the upgraded highways will play an important role in handling increasing traffic volumes over the next two to three decades.

Construction timelines are expected to span two to three years, subject to land acquisition clearances and seasonal factors. MSIDC has said it will closely monitor progress to ensure timely completion.

With these two projects moving into the execution phase, Pune’s road infrastructure push is set to gain momentum, addressing long-standing traffic bottlenecks on some of the district’s busiest corridors.
