People across England are once again being asked to rate their local GP surgery as part of the national Patient Survey.

The annual questionnaire seeks to gain the views of the people who matter most about GP surgery performance – the patients.

A number of practices are rated as the ‘worst’ in the West Midlands based on the 2025 results.

They will be hoping they have done enough in the last 12 months to convince patients things have improved.

Locals are quizzed in a range of areas, focusing both on the performance of GPs specifically as well as the overall experience of attending and contacting the practice.

This includes quality of care and how easy it is to get through on the phone or online and book and appointment.

They are asked to provide an overall rating of very good, fairly good, fairly poor or very poor.

Patient responses can be key to alerting the Care Quality Commission (CQC) where there may be issues requiring closer attention.

At West Midlands surgeries with the worst ratings, only around four in 10 locals believed they were doing a good job.

The practice which scored lowest in 2025 was Saltley and Fernbank Medical Practice, with just 36% giving an overall rating of good.

‘Worst’ GP surgeries in the West Midlands, according to patients

  • Saltley and Fernbank Medical Practice – 36% of patients rated good overall
  • Stone Cross Medical Centre – 40%
  • Aubrey Road Medical Centre, Small Heath – 42%
  • Jubilee Health Centre, Wednesbury – 42%

Those at the bottom end of the performance list will be hoping for much better in 2026.
