Two people have been arrested and €310,000 worth of drugs – including cocaine – seized during operations in Cork and Limerick.
The Garda searches took place yesterday evening in Bruree, Co. Limerick and Charleville, Co. Cork, close to the Cork-Limerick border. During the course of the search of a residence in Bruree, cannabis (€198,000), cocaine (€10,500), Xanax tablets (€79,252) and amphetamines (€4,350) were seized.
At a follow-up search of a residence in Charleville, Co. Cork, cocaine (€17,500), cannabis (€1000), weighing scales and drugs paraphernalia were also discovered.
A woman, 30s, and a man, 40s, were arrested in connection with the investigation and are currently detained pursuant to Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda Station in the Co. Limerick area. The seized drugs will be analysed by Forensic Science Ireland.
Yesterday’s seizures are part of Operation Tara, a national anti-drugs strategy launched by the Garda Commissioner in July 2021. The focus of Operation Tara is to “disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels – international, national, local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.”
