Tyson Fury has confirmed he will make his return to boxing, just a year after retiring. The ‘Gypsy King’ has been back in training and has now revealed that he will return to the sport in 2026.

Fury announced his shock retirement from boxing last January following back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk. The 37-year-old was left furious after being judged to have lost to his Ukrainian rival and hung up his gloves soon after.

But recently, the former heavyweight champion has hinted at a stunning return to competitive action. Fury has posted regular training videos to his millions of followers online.

That appears to have led to his announcement today. Fury posted a compilation of training footage with a clear message.

Posting on Instagram, Fury said: “2026 is that year Return of the mac. Been away for a while but im back now, 37 years old and still punching. nothing better to do than punch men in the face & get paid for it.”

Fury had earlier shown that rather than spending time celebrating the new year, he was hard at work. The ‘Gypsy King’ released footage of him hitting the pads at the ISS Boxing and Muay Thai in Pattaya City, Thailand and has also done some light sparring with fellow heavyweight, Kevin Lerena.

“This is how I spent my New Year. Grinding & working my a** off! couldn’t think of anything better to do than this!” he wrote on Instagram.

“Great things come to those who work hard. All in the name of Jesus. Little by little on the daily we keep climbing.”

Speculation had been mounting over a British heavyweight clash between Fury and Anthony Joshua. The latter has since been involved in a tragic car crash in which he lost two close friends, however.

Speaking to The Mirror, promoter Frank Warren admitted he is unsure what the future holds for Fury or AJ following the tragedy.

“Well, boxing will certainly be the last thing on his [Joshua’s] mind, right now,” said Warren. “He’s obviously lost two team members who were good, close friends who are now no longer with us, so that will be a big loss to him.

“I don’t know the extent of his injuries, but it’s also how mentally this will affect him. Boxing again will be the last thing on his mind, but tragedy can affect people in different ways; sometimes, you need something you can really focus on to pull through to the other side.”
