It’s another bitterly cold day here in Cork amid the current cold snap, with the national forecaster warning of freezing temperatures and hazardous travel conditions on our roads. The current forecast indicates that the weather across Rebel County will remain clear and chilly in the coming days, with a dramatic shift expected later this week.

Temperatures in Cork city started out at a low of -2°C this morning and will slowly rise into the early afternoon, reaching a peak of 4°C by lunchtime. Elsewhere in Cork, this morning saw lows of -6°C and -4°C in Fermoy and Skibbereen, respectively, with temperatures expected to hold steady at 3°C from noon onwards before plummeting again overnight.

It’s shaping up to be a clear and frosty day here in Cork city. Met Éireann is predicting little to no rainfall today, with only a chance of scattered showers in the late afternoon. Munster remains under a Status Yellow ice warning until 11 am this morning, and a second warning of the same type is set to come into effect from 6 pm this evening.

Update: Met Éireann’s updated Status Yellow warning was brought forward and came into effect at 8:22 am today.

The national forecaster has warned of ‘sharp or severe frost’ and hazardous travelling conditions along our roads. Many of our major routes have been treated overnight by the councils, but motorists are urged to drive carefully, as widespread icy patches can still form on treated roads.

Temperatures will also rise by Wednesday, reaching the double digits as the cold snap comes to an end.
