It’s a place that many people in the North East, particularly in the Gateshead area know well and popular pub The Fiddlers Three has got big plans for 2026. And that’s because the team in charge are planning a ‘total transformation’ of the place before the summer.

If you’ve been paying attention to ChronicleLive over the last few months, you’ll have seen that plenty of well known pubs in the region are now looking rather different, having closed their doors to allow extensive makeovers to take place behind the scenes, before re-opening for regulars to get a first look. Notable examples in recent months include The New Crown in South Shields, The Longship in Hebburn and Red House Farm. And another that has been transformed over the last few months is another from the same patch in Whitley Bay, The Beehive.

All of those are now back open for business, with customers giving their seal of approval to their respective transformations and now there’s one on the horizon at The Fiddlers, with the High Heworth venue giving a teaser of its big plans for the coming year in a Facebook page at the end of December. The Albion Street pub has been part of the local community for years and, detailing what they’ve got up their sleeve for 2026, they wrote: ‘As we’re looking to the year ahead it’s probably time we share some of our plans for the next twelve months with you.

‘We’re going to be giving the place a bit of a spruce up before the summer to include some outdoor play equipment for younger children, a full redecoration throughout in particular paying attention the the toilets and interior lighting as well as the external appearance of the pub.’

The post also included floor plans of what the work in the pipeline will look like and it quickly gathered plenty of comments, with one customer responding: ‘Fab idea we love this pub so a place for the kiddies to play would be great’ and another writing: ‘Love this as nowhere at all for kids now especially in the summer months.’

There were many others who, while loving the sound of what’s in store for The Fiddlers Three, urged its owners to keep the pub’s ‘traditional’ exterior.
