A woman has been released from Garda custody – while a man continues to be detained – after both were arrested following a drugs bust this weekend.

Over €310k worth of drugs were seized following Garda searches in Bruree, Co. Limerick and Charleville, Co. Cork on Friday evening, 2nd January. During the course of the search of a residence in Bruree, cannabis (€198,000), cocaine (€10,500), Xanax tablets (€79,252) and amphetamines (€4,350) were seized.

At a follow-up search of a residence in Charleville, Co. Cork, cocaine (€17,500), cannabis (€1000), weighing scales and drug paraphernalia were also discovered.

A woman, 30s, and a man, 40s, were arrested in connection with the investigation and detained pursuant to Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda Station in the Co. Limerick area. In a new update today, Gardaí confirmed the woman has been released without charge, but the man remains detained. The seized drugs will be analysed by Forensic Science Ireland.

The drugs bust comes as part of Operation Tara, a national anti-drugs strategy launched by the Garda Commissioner in July 2021. The focus of Operation Tara is to “disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels – international, national, local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.”
