Work on the second phase of a huge scheme to improve Camborne is set to start today (Monday, January 5).
Phase two of the Camborne Town Deal’s Renew highways scheme begins with a particular focus on Commercial Street and the town square.
Part of the wider Camborne Town Deal Transport Project, the Renew scheme will enhance the appearance of Camborne town centre and improve access for pedestrians and cyclists as well as supporting the local economy by encouraging people to spend more time in the town.
Specific measures include:
- adding new seating and plant greenery
- improving pedestrian crossings throughout Trelowarren Street
- a new zebra crossing at Fore Street
- extending on-street free parking at the top of Trelowarren Street from 30 minutes to an 1 hour
- repairing paving defects in Commercial Square
- installing enhanced lighting and CCTV
- providing cycle parking.
As part of the work, road closures will be put in place and diversions will be in place for the duration.
Pedestrian access with be maintained during the works, with access for deliveries provided as close to individual businesses as possible.

One hour of free parking will be provided at the Rosewarne car parks in Camborne to help support the local community while these highways works are taking place.
Works will continue through into the spring, with plans being developed to ensure that the road is clear and open for Trevithick Day. Following Trevithick Day, the remaining works (primarily surfacing and laying of the new imprint paving) will be completed by the end of May.
Information about the works is available on the Camborne Town Deal Transport Project page on Let’s Talk Cornwall https://letstalk.cornwall.gov.uk/camborne-renew and the Camborne Town Deal website https://cambornetowndeal.com/
In June 2021, Camborne secured a Town Deal of up to £23.7 million following the successful submission of its Town Investment Plan for a range of regeneration projects.
St Ives, Penzance and Truro also received funding under the Town Deal scheme.
