Drivers told ‘avoid area’ in Birmingham and buses diverted amid police incident

A suspected drink or drug driver crashed into a box containing electrical equipment on Jennens Road

Police have warned drivers to avoid an area of Birmingham after a crash involving a suspected drink or drug driver.

Buses have been diverted and people were told to steer clear of Jennens Road, in Aston following the ‘police incident’ today, Sunday, January 4.

Police said a man had crashed into an electrical equipment box, with a cordon erected while it was made safe.

Officers have arrested a man on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “A man has been arrested after a car crashed into an electrical equipment box on Jennens Road at around 10.40am today.

“The suspect was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs, and has been taken to hospital.

“A cordon is in place while the electrical equipment is made safe, and drivers are urged to avoid the area.”

The number 94, 95 and 14 bus services were diverting via James Watt Queensway and Dartmouth Middleway from around 11.15am.

National Express said: “Diversion. Jennens Road. Due to a police incident.

“94, 95,14 James Watt Queens Way, Dartmouth Middle Way. We apologise for any inconvenience.”
