A large search and rescue operation is taking place after concerns that a man fell into a Welsh river during the early hours of the morning. A huge emergency services response has been sent to the centre of Cardigan in Ceredigion early on Sunday morning, with a search underway on a section of the River Teifi.
Images from the scene show rescue boats in the water, while a search and rescue helicopter, fire crews, and police officers are also in attendance.
Emergency crews remain at the scene on Sunday morning, having first been called to the area, to the south of the town’s High Street, shortly after 5.15am. Read the biggest stories in Wales first by signing up to our daily newsletter here.
Police are urging people to stay away from the area, but are asking anyone who can assist with their search to contact them.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “Officers are currently involved in a multi-agency operation at the River Teifi in Cardigan.
“A search is underway for a man who is believed to have entered the water from the bridge at Castle Street at around 5.15am
“Dyfed-Powys Police, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service and HM Coastguard are at the scene, with searches taking place on foot, by boat, helicopter and drone.
“Members of the public are advised to stay away.
“If you have any information that could help officers, or if you are the person who entered the water and are now safe, please get in touch online, by e-mailing 101@dyfed-powys.police.uk, or by calling 101, quoting reference 52 of January 4.”
A spokeswoman for HM Coastguard said: “HM Coastguard is responding to reports of an incident in Cardigan this morning.
“Alerted at around 5.20am, Coastguard Rescue Teams from Llansteffan and Aberystwyth, a lifeboat from Cardigan RNLI and a coastguard search and rescue helicopter have been sent, alongside police and fire and rescue service.”
