Met Office weather maps show how a snow system is barrelling towards the West Midlands.

More snow is forecast to hit the region on Sunday evening, and could spark travel chaos on Monday as many head back to work for the first time after Christmas.

Yellow weather warnings will be in place across the entire Midlands by tonight, as the weather system makes its way east across the country.

Snow is forecast to move in from Wales around noon to northern parts of the Midlands around Staffordshire.

The system is then expected to move across the Midlands later in the afternoon and into Sunday evening.

Forecasters say up to 8cm of snow could fall in the worst-hit areas.

Though it’s possible some areas within the yellow weather warning area could escape the white stuff.

The Met Office said: “Snow showers are expected to push further inland across Wales, parts of north-west England, the West Midlands and south-west England during Sunday afternoon and evening.

“Along windward coasts, some rain and sleet is likely, but inland showers will fall as snow.

“Whilst not all locations in the warning area will see snow, 1-3 cm could develop in many places by Monday morning, with the potential for 5-8 cm to build up in a few locations, particularly across inland and higher parts of Wales.

“Icy stretches are likely to form widely.

They added in a new update: “A band of snow showers will move south during Sunday evening and into the early hours of Monday, giving a covering of 1-3 cm of snow in places and leading to ice on untreated surfaces.

“Further snow showers are likely across eastern England during Monday morning.”
