A person has been captured tempting fate near massive freezing waves at Whitby harbour – merely 24 hours after a fatal incident occurred further down the coast at Withernsea.
Alarming photographs have revealed a figure wearing a green parker hooded jacket whilst moving along the lifeboat and yacht ramp towards the churning waters beneath. The photograph captures 15ft waves hammering the harbour wall in the background as the individual inches towards the sea, navigating cautiously down a treacherous ramp.
The photographs were captured as screen grabs from live CCTV footage provided by Whitby yacht club. When some locals suggested the “footage was AI”, the person who shared it swiftly corrected them with a direct link to the live feed.
One resident commented: “Why on earth would you do this? Absolutely ridiculous. They deserve all they get. Thick as.”
Someone else wrote: “Two have died and one missing in Withernsea – and people still do this?” Lynn questioned: “Have they not seen the news?”, reports Yorkshire Live.
Heather remarked: “And someone will be expected to save them from their own stupidity.”
Another observer noted: “Madness. I’ve been watching them on the live stream. Pretty dangerous where they are.”
Sue commented: “Crazy.”
Melissa stated: “People don’t learn do they – don’t play with the sea.”
Carolyn concluded: “Have they learnt nothing from what happened in Withernsea and how it affects the rescue services. Stupid, dangerous and selfish. Respect the sea.”

Two bodies have been retrieved from the icy waters by search and rescue teams, with one individual still missing in Withernsea. The search was initiated at 3.12pm on Friday, January 2, following an incident where a girl was swept into the freezing sea by a wave.
The body of a 67-year-old man was found first, followed by the tragic discovery of a second body. Comprehensive searches were conducted throughout Saturday and concluded on Saturday evening.
